Taking the A-to-Z Challenge

What started as a notion to help get posts here going on a more regular basis, the Blogging from A to Z challenge, has now morphed into a body of new work for my upcoming exhibition at TAG Gallery.
My show is titled Southwestern Sojourn.

I've been brainstorming during #myshittycommute

I've been making a list
What the heck do I use for "X"? Ideas anyone?
I've been scouring photos albums both virtual and analog for images

I've been digitally painting

I've started sending out files for printing on canvas
The new series will be Southwest A to Z, digital paintings printed on 6x6" canvases.
("6x6 for Route 66" -- genius reason provided by Adam Marsland).

Are you feeling stumped creatively? The simple prompt "A to Z" really got my motor revved!

  1. Great theme! X is always a hard one... I usually go a little roundabout with it, like "X marks the spot" or "X-rated" (on my erotica blog, this works best), or I start paging through my dictionary in search of inspirational words.

This year I'm doing a travel theme as well, with "Sexy San Diego" on my sexy blog and "San Diego A to Z" on my new Laura Roberts Books blog. I plan to compile them into a book when I'm done, so I should have lots of material to work with!

    1. Ha! Traffic is very slow through that interchange and I get a lot of planning done! Sticky notes are the best.
      Thanks for stopping by, Sabina.

  3. So creative, Anne, with both word play and photos. What a fun AtoZ Gallery Opening this is going to be. I am glad you found on that LONG list....I am a Southwest Gal, and recognized several of your 66 Canvas subjects right away. I've added you to my AtoZ Blog Roll so I don't miss a single post.

    Here's a Z suggestion...Zunkerville, Texas

  4. Thanks Sue! Yep, I saw "Texas" in your title and had to investigate.
"Z" HAD to be Zzyx Road, on I-15 near Baker, CA. I was even going to drive over there if I didn't find my photo!
One of my current quandaries is WHERE are my Grand Canyon photos? WHERE? [Starting to suspect that all the pix I KNOW I took but can't find are being held hostage on a frozen external hard drive. I have an entire road trip on it. Grrrr.]

Hmmmm, Zunkerville. Just looked it up. Is east of I-35 "The Southwest"? I asked Jon Dee Graham what his "Southwest" parameters were and he said this: "There is no clear answer here; culture confuses geography. I think you'd be safe drawing a line thru San Antonio N to S and then calling everything west of that line Southwest. My personal belief is that Southwest is a cultural locale that involves Arizona, New Mexico and SoCal, and that Texas is its own thing with elements of too many cultures to be anything BUT Texas."

I AM including western TX. I must!

    1. "Texas is a State of Mind. Texas is an Obsession. Above all Texas is a Nation in every sense of the word. John Steinbeck."

Yep, I think you have Texas geography pretty well figured out. I'm sure glad you are including West Texas. I'm from Podunk, West Texas...actually Ward County...5th Generation from Pioneer Settlers from Georgia...and we sure consider ourselves Southwest!

  7. Ok, color me confused -- Multicolored Diary - Epics from A to Z says that you've read all your epics (which sounds epic btw heehee). Or maybe you mean your MopDog A-Z, which also sounds interesting.
Anyway, I HAD to get it all in work because it's all going in an art exhibition on 4/19. And Photobucket takes about two weeks to get the canvas prints produced and shipped. I have to have it ALL DONE this weekend, and I'm still finessing it. ARGH!
Thanks for stopping by, I'll put your two A-Zs on my reading list now!
