X was a bit of a stretch in the A to Z Challenge. I fudged it a little here.

The location itself is interesting. It's en route to Rock Hound State Park, outside of Deming, NM. One is allowed to collect rock specimens there (hence the name), which is unusual for a state park. Enshrouded by the fog are the Little Florida Mountains, a major landmark as you drive I-10 between Deming and Las Cruces.

P is for Prada Marfa

An art installation set in the middle of nowhere, Prada Marfa is located 36 miles northwest of Marfa on US90. It was in a bedraggled state in 2014 -- graffiti covered the back exterior wall, bits of glue were slathered on the windows. From what I can tell from Instagram, the awnings have been refurbished and things have been cleaned up. Inside is a mock Prada shop with the coveted bags and shoes (the shoes are left foot singles) displayed.

H is for Hoover Dam

Was this was the first or the second time that I saw Hoover Dam? I know for sure that it was October 94. And that French accordion music was playing on the cassette player as I drove s-l-o-w-l-y through the curves around the dam. And that it was all very surreal.

C is for Cabazon, CA

This is from an old photo. There is so much roadside business that has mushroomed around these giant dinosaurs located in Cabazon, CA that I couldn't see them from I-10 when I drove by this February. One used to be able to enter the "Prehistoric Museum" through the apatosaurus' tail and view a myriad of dioramas proving that Jesus walked with the dinosaurs. Read more here.

From Wikipedia: "Cadillac Ranch is a public art installation and sculpture in Amarillo, Texas, U.S. It was created in 1974 by Chip Lord, Hudson Marquez and Doug Michels, who were a part of the art group Ant Farm. It consists of what were (when originally installed during 1974) either older running used or junk Cadillac automobiles, representing a number of evolutions of the car line (most notably the birth and death of the defining feature of mid twentieth century Cadillacs; the tailfins) from 1949 to 1963, half-buried nose-first in the ground, at an angle corresponding to that of the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt.[1]"
